Dream jobs are real. Here’s why your dream job is waiting for you + 2 ways to land your perfect role.

Yay, I have exciting news! Dream jobs are real – they do exist. Maybe you are not so sure about that, so let’s put some numbers on it to explore the ‘why’ it’s a fact before discovering the ‘how’ you can get your perfect role, too.

In 2021, a survey of 2,000 Americans revealed that 43% are currently living out their dream job and an additional 19% have previously worked in their dream field. That’s 62% of real people who know first-hand that dream jobs exist because they landed their perfect roles.

In the UK according to a Reed survey, 82% of real people felt optimistic about their chances of finding their dream job in 2021. That’s great news – because I know from personal experience that it is 100% possible to find your dream job – I found mine, too!

So, dream jobs do exist. But let’s dispel the myth of what a dream job consists of. More importantly, what a dream job is not.

If you are thinking a dream job is all about the highest financial rewards, the most senior ranking positions, fame and recognition then stop. “Better” doesn’t equate to objective measures; it is how you feel about your life when you’ve made the right career decision.

There are plenty of unhappy, highly stressed millionaires who are not in fact living the dream! A dream job is one that makes you HAPPY and fulfilled. You work provides you with what you need and gives you a sense of purpose in life. You enjoy what you do – you are doing what you love.

Your dream job is out there waiting. Here’s why:

We’ve established that dream jobs do exist. Your dream job is out there waiting for you. Why?

Have you ever dragged yourself into work thinking there must be something better than this? You have? And then what? The day has begun and before you know it, you’re back home sitting in front to the telly. It’s yet another unfulfilled day feeling guilty that you don’t feel like laughing with your family because you feel so drained and “lost” in your career.

Did you miss it? That moment just there. The moment is fleeting. It’s easy to miss. Let’s rewind…

Have you ever dragged yourself into work thinking there must be something better than this? You have? STOP.

This is the moment. The point a decision has just been made – the point of a choice.

  1. Push the thought away. Get on with your day. Before you know it, you’re back home again in front to the telly. You weren’t being serious anyway. You don’t believe in dream jobs. Not for you, anyway. The job you have is fine. You just do what you do. You choose to stay doing it.
  2. Notice. THINK. Is this thought a one-off “bad day” or is this something that keeps vying for your attention – a little voice that is crying out to be heard? If it is the latter, you have a choice. Push the thought away or do something about it.

You must make a decision. Even procrastinating and ignoring the decision is a choice – it has an outcome just the same. You have simply decided to do nothing. If you do nothing, nothing will change. Your dream job will just stay out there waiting. If you want to land your perfect role, there is only one option. You must do something! Why do I know this? The answer is simple – because I have been there. And I found the way!

Here are 2 ways to land your dream job

Making the decision to chase your dreams is terrifying. You have just raised the stakes and admitted to yourself that you want more out of your career, and that means you want more out of life. This is uncharted territory. Suddenly we’ve stopped telling ourselves the little ‘stories’ trying to justify why we lacked the courage to take control of our life. We have put ourselves out there and shown our hand. Fear of the unknown is real. And fear brings with it all kinds of doubts and questions.

  • What if you cannot find the job that will make you happy?
  • What if you are not good enough?
  • What if you fail?

This is what is known as a “limiting mindset” or a “limiting belief” – the voices within that try to make us believe we are not worthy of reaching higher. It is a glass ceiling. You can and will smash through it!

Here’s your two routes to getting your dream job that’s out there waiting.

Pathway 1

Make the decision that you will be committed to your new goal so that you will pursue it without letting anything stop you. Yes, that includes overcoming those limiting beliefs, working out what dream job will truly make you happy and then putting a plan in place to achieve your goals. Do this, and you will get your dream job!

But here’s the bad news. You have to do it on your own.

Pathway 2

Make the decision that you will be committed to your new goal so that you will pursue it without letting anything stop you. Instead of facing obstacles alone and unprepared, you choose to invest in your dreams and work with a guide so you can conquer those limiting beliefs. You get a structured step-by-step approach that enables you to have all the skills in place to ensure you are successful. You gain clarity around which jobs align with your passions and will actually make you happy and fulfilled. Not only that, but you will also develop the self-confidence on a journey that you are walking together. A journey that will bring you tangible results. You will get your dream job!

The summary

Are you going to sit and be miserable on the sofa or decide to take action?

Do you want to figure it out alone or would you rather have a guide to walk the path with you and together find your dream job that’s out there waiting for you?

Which path do you want to choose?

Professional

I first worked with Will whilst I was a junior member of a teaching team. I worked closely with him for around three years and he became a true mentor to me. During this time Will helped encourage me to discover my own leadership style and he mapped out what it takes to be successful. I highly recommend Will for life and career coaching.

Will is a professional, natural leader who manages to make you feel at ease. He manages to be both emphatic and encouraging, whilst also managing to challenge you to find your own answers. Will’s approach is totally non-judgmental and the sessions are really focused on you and on what you want to achieve. Working with Will has allowed me to address challenges I was facing and he brought a wealth of resources and practical tools to help me set goals, clarify my values, and explore avenues right away. Even though I left teaching 5 years ago, I still seek out Will for his help and guidance and I appreciate his versatility as a thought partner, ally, and coach. Our sessions are always productive and efficiently run, which is perfect for someone who is juggling many priorities! Will brings great communication, professionalism and quality to his work and I highly recommend him as a life/business coach.
