Are you letting doubt prevent your career change?

If so, here is how do you change doubt to do.

When I was thinking of leaving my role as a headteacher, of course there were doubts.

  • Will I be able to provide for my family?
  • Can I earn enough money?
  • Am I making the right decision?
  • What else should I do instead?
  • Will I regret a career change not working with children?
  • Will I miss the school holidays?
  • Am I employable outside education?
  • What about my pension?
  • And many more besides…

Doubts exist irrespective of how clear the reality is. You may be:

  • Stressed
  • Miserable
  • Barely seeing family and friends
  • Working all hours (and still not keeping up with workload!)
  • On constant ‘high-alert’
  • Suffering with ill-health mentally / physically
  • Living only to work (no life)

You know you need to do it. You have so many doubts.

But here is how to help shift the mindset to make doing something about it a little easier.

Which future career do you want to choose?

Imagine you have two futures.

Future 1 – you stay “comfortable” (we kid ourselves that change is bad). You don’t change. You continue for the rest of your working life exactly as you are right now.

Future 2 – you did it. You changed careers. You have a new path, and your life is different; you no longer face your current situation. You have your life back!

What is it worth to you to be able to walk away?

What is it worth to you to find a career that ‘fits’ your lifestyle?

Doubt if you must – but do it anyway.
