As a business owner, there are plenty of invoices that come my way. At this time of year, it is particularly frantic as businesses are getting accounts in order for year-end. We all want everything wrapped up – no outstanding invoices, no payments left lingering – it is about the clean start for the next financial year.
In this scrambled quest, it is easy to just sign the invoices and make payments to get another account filed. It saves time to sign things off rapidly, but efficiency should not be confused with speed. It is only efficient if you are sure the accounts are correct – and sometimes this takes a bit more time to check, ask the right questions and be thorough that your investments are on track.
Speed and efficiency are sometimes confused in career changes, too.
If you take the fastest option to leave one role and take on another, it feels like you are making progress – things are happening quickly, great!
But that is only efficient if the role you are moving to is the best fit. If it is not the right role, then you have the start the process all over again. And that is neither progress, nor the fastest option. It is wholly ineffective.
It is only efficient if you are sure the career path you are going to is correct for your needs – and sometimes this takes a bit more time to check, ask the right questions and be thorough that your investments in your career are on track.
