My dear ghosts,
I hope you are well. It’s been a long time since I heard from you and so I wanted to take the opportunity to check in: to let you know that I have not forgotten you.
You hear on the news sometimes how people go missing without a trace. Faces appear on milk cartons and over bridge walkways. Notices of “last seen” moments stapled to telegraph poles.
From our regular contact, I invested a genuine interest in your problem; you always said you were grateful for the advice and insights shared. You even asked me to tell you more about ways I could help you find a new path so you could achieve a solution. So, we talked on the phone sharing experiences, connecting.
I never mind if you find alternative solutions. I have only ever wanted you to find the right solution for your problem so you can live a life you’ll love.
I will never know.
You evaporated like a phantom. Gone without a trace. Did the time we spent connecting ever exist? Were you a figment of my imagination?
I wonder what ever happened to you next. Whether you found your new path and moved on to a happier life or whether you are still stuck at a crossroads somewhere out there, door upon door closing in around you?
I will never know.
But I think of you often.
And I always hope that you have found a way somehow.
Because I invested a genuine interest – not some fleeting apparition of support.
Look after yourselves, my dear ghosts.
Until we meet again in another lifetime….
Take care.
